The HNBF is proud to announce California Supreme Court Justice Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar as this year’s recipient of its Judicial Leadership Award.
Born in Mexico, Justice Cuéllar graduated from high school in California before beginning a distinguished academic, legal, and public service career that would ultimately bring him to the California Supreme Court in 2015.
Prior to his tenure on California’s High Court, Justice Cuéllar was a faculty member at Stanford Law School and director of the university’s institute for international studies, and earlier, he served as Special Assistant to the President during the Obama Administration. During his time in this role, his purview included civil and criminal justice, public health, immigration, and education.
Justice Cuéllar sits on the governing boards of Harvard University, the Hewlett Foundation, and the American Law Institute, and he chairs the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences.
