Luis is a highly respected litigator. In addition to helping clients resolve a broad range of commercial disputes, he also devotes part of his practice to domestic and international business matters and transactions, including acquisitions, joint ventures, and general corporate issues.

Luis has handled cases across the United States and Latin America involving marine casualties, products liability, unfair trade practices, breach of contract, transportation law, and alleged violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), among other disputes. He has litigated cases before state and federal courts as well as in arbitrations before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).

In his maritime practice, Luis handles cases involving marine casualties, collision, personal injury, complex maritime products liability, commercial litigation, contract disputes, and a wide range of transactional matters. Luis has led multiple casualty investigations and resulting litigation.

In his employment litigation practice, Luis regularly prosecutes and defends covenants not to compete and unfair competition claims, and obtains injunctions to prevent breach of non-compete agreements, employee raiding, unfair competition, and the use or disclosure of trade secrets. He provides strategic advice to clients on matters involving the recruitment and hiring of executives and other key personnel, and also counsels management on the use and structuring of enforceable restrictive covenants and other tools that help employers retain employees and prevent the loss of proprietary information.

Luis is a sought-after speaker and panelist. Among other presentations, he has spoken on legal and regulatory issues related to US-Cuba relations, including changes in Export Administration Regulations administered by the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and the Cuban Assets Control Regulations administered by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
